Nigerian Markets Daily Market Snapshot - Monday, January 9th, 2024

NGX All-Share Index Tops 80,000 Points.

For Monday's trading session, the NGX All-Share Index broke the 80,000 points mark after gaining +0.83% for the day, and it is positioned to continue this remarkable upward trajectory.

 

WAPCO (+9.67%), TRANSCORP (+9.79%), ZENITHBANK (+2.50%), GTCO (+3.53%), and UBA (+3.28%). The year-to-date return of the index rose to +7.43% (previously +6.54%) while investors gained N363.31 Billion bringing total market capitalisation to N43.96 trillion. Similarly, the NGX Premium Board Index also gained +0.85% to close at 7,729.49 points for the day.

 

Sectoral Performance:

The day was in green for all sector indices tracked. Driven by gains in companies like CORNERST (+10.00%), LASACO (+10.00%), and WAPIC (+9.86%), the NGX Insurance Index gained +6.28%, leading the pack as the top performing index.

 

In second, the NGX Banking Index gained +2.23%, after strong performances from tier-1 banks like GTCO (+3.53%), UBA (+3.28%), ACCESSCORP (+3.20%), and ZENITHBANK (+2.50%). Third place was held by the NGX Pension Index after a +1.67% gain on the day.
